Class Descriptions

CHILDREN’S CLASSES

We have two 45 minute classes right after school Monday to Friday between 4:00 and 5:30.  We also have two 60 minute classes on Monday at 6:30 and Wednesday at 6:30, as well as 30 minute 7:30 classes on Monday – Thursday for working parents, and Saturday at 9:30.

Children – Monday to Friday 4:00/4:45 and Saturday 9:30/10:15 Classes are 45 minutes long and are most appropriate for children 11 and under.

4:00 – 4:45 Mon/Fri
Children Basics – All Belts
This class focuses on basics.  From learning how to focus your attention to executing the basic techniques in the line drills. Younger students may need to spend extra time in these classes until the instructor lets them know they are able to attend All Levels classes. First half line drills, second half techniques or Forms/Test Review.  Upper Belt students who attend this class will be focusing on basic techniques.

All Children 
Line drills are used to teach techniques for all belt levels. Second half can be Techniques practice or Forms, One Steps and Combinations.

4:45 – 5:30 Wed and 6:30 – 7:30 Wed and 10:15 – 11:00 Sat
Children’s Light Sparring
These classes are for Yellow Stripes and above. Yellow Belts and above must spar during Promotion Tests so you should try to attend a few classes before testing. Please see me if you need to purchase sparring gear. Children learn how to defend themselves in a sparring situation. The goal is to gain self confidence through self defense in a safe and secure environment. Parents, we would appreciate your help putting sparring gear on your child until he/she can do this on his/her own.

4:45 – 5:30 Tues/Fri
Children – Green Stripe to Black Belt
These classes are for upper belts. First half will be line drills, second half can be Forms/Test Review or Technique practice.  On Fridays we will focus on Forms.

4:45 – 5:30 Thur
Children – Black Belt Program members only
This program is for students who are committed to getting their black belt and have signed up for a longer program. The focus is on more detailed and in depth learning of techniques, and test preparation. It also includes Matwork and Board Breaking.

6:30 – 7:30 Mon and 7:30 – 8:00 Mon/Tues/Wed/Thur

All Children  and Adults/Teens
These classes are convenient for working parents and/or adults who need a slightly later class.  The first half of class class is Line drills are used to teach techniques for all belt levels. Second half can be Techniques practice or Forms, One Steps and Combinations

ADULT/TEEN CLASSES

Adults/Teens 12 &up – we allow children who are 12 & up to join adults in classes.

Family – Parents with children that are taking Taekwondo together can take these classes at the same time.

Blue Belt and Above Kids – advanced level children can take these classes.

5:30  Mon/WedThur/Fri
Adults/Teens 12 & up, Family, Children Green Stripe & up 
Parents who are taking classes with their children may attend these classes. Green Stripe and up children may also take these classes. Please note: The 5:30 All Levels class is an Adult/Teen class. Children who attend must be able to focus for 1 hour.

5:30 Tues
Adults/Teens 12&up/Kids(blue belt and up) – Advanced
This class focuses on advanced jumping, kicking, punching and more active line drills. The class also incorporates core strengthening exercises as well as stretching.  Children Blue Belt and above who attend cannot have attended the 4:00 or 4:45 children’s class, as it is too tiring for them.

6:30 Wed
Adults/Teens 12&up  and Children – Light Sparring
Yellow Stripe and above can attend this class, or with instructor permission. Yellow Belts and above must spar during Promotion Tests. Please see me if you need to purchase sparring gear. This class is intended to help you learn how to defend yourself against an opponent. The first half of the class consists of footwork, punching and kicking drills. The second half focuses on partner sparring. Punching, blocking, kicking and grappling techniques are taught and then practiced. Sparring classes are a great way to build stamina while learning how to defend yourself.

6:30 Thur
Adult/Teens 12&up – Black Belt Program members only
This program is for students who are committed to getting their black belt and have signed up for a longer program. The focus is on more detailed and in depth learning of techniques, test preparation, grappling and self defense. This program includes unlimited classes.

6:30 Tues, 5:30 Fri, 1:00 Sat
Adults/Teen 12& up, Parents with Kids, Blue Stripe and Up – Forms and/or Test Review
Forms, One Steps and Combinations are covered in these classes.

6:30 Fri
Full Range Sparring Basics – Adults/Teens 14&up, Children Red Belt & up
These classes are preparation for Full Range Sparring in Boston, which is required for the Black Belt Test.  We recommend that children start attending these classes as soon as they become Red Belts. Adults/Teens 14+ can attend this starting at Yellow Stripe.

11:00 Sat
All Ages Blue Belt & up – Forms
This class is highly recommended for students who need to learn or review all of the Forms – Chunji through Choong Mu, as we will go through all of them.

12:00 Sat
Adults/Teens 12&up, Children Red Belt & up – Light Sparring/Stamina building
Adults Yellow Stripe and above can attend this class, or with instructor permission. Yellow Stripes and above must spar during Promotion Tests. Please see me if you need to purchase sparring gear. This class is intended to help you learn how to defend yourself against an opponent. The first half of the class consists of footwork, punching and kicking drills. Black Belts Only – We will be reviewing Black Belt Forms Techniques, Demonstration Practice including Board Breaking techniques and unique Forms formations, and Test Review.
