Why Taekwondo?

This is what some people have to say about our school.

Why we joined the Jae H. Kim Taekwon-Do Institute in Ashland

When our family decided to try Taekwondo, it was as a 3 month experiment.  Now, almost two years later, Taekwon-Do has become a part of our weekly routines, and it is something that we enjoy and look forward to.

Before joining the Jae H. Kim Institute, we called various institutes in the area.  We wanted a place that was friendly and could work with each of our different learning styles.  We wanted instructors who could teach seriously while make learning fun, so that it was not a battle to bring the kids over.  We found that the Jae H. Kim Institute is the only Martial Arts Institute that offered family practice classes every day.  Mr. Kim, the founder, is a source of inspiration, knowledge and wisdom which goes beyond Taekwon-Do.

In the class, we learned very quickly that we need to focus when doing line drills and the only way to do this is to block off all other thoughts and concentrate on the activity at hand.  This actually helps relax me more than working out at a gym, where I am typically listening to, or watching something, so am not entirely clearing my mind.

The Institute also organizes challenges every once in a while, and we sign up when we can, just for the fun of it.  It is another mental lesson in addition to a physical one that is taught in a fun way.  The core thought here being that even though something may seem impossible in the beginning, once you put your mind to it, it sometimes turns out easier than expected.

What started as a 3 month experiment has turned to become a part of our life, and we hope it continues to be that way.   We now draw our inspiration from not only the teachers, but also the grandfathers and grandmothers we see practicing regularly, and hope that we too will continue our practice for many years to come.
